NEAT or Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis is something that is highly overlooked, or it may just be something that many of us don’t think about, however it is important when it comes to the progress that you make in terms of your fitness goals.
NEAT is simply all the activities that you do throughout your day that is not deliberate physical activity, but still burns calories, such as going up and the down the stairs.
It counts as one of the 4 variables that goes into your metabolism/metabolic rate. If you assume your body is in in a healthy/responsive state then by increasing your NEAT, you can then increase your metabolism.
By being stuck in lockdown, our NEAT will be the main variable that will be affected, being stuck inside/ working from home with minimal movement, so we must prioritise movement where we can and not just through workouts.
Simply going for a walk each day and hitting your 10,000 steps is one way to ensure you are keeping your body moving.
Lack of activity destroys the good condition of human beings, whilst movement and physical activity saves it, so just keep moving.
