There She Goes

Another comforting classic show that I go to when I am struggling is Gilmore Girls.

Not being sure about where I was heading, or what job I was going into and just generally feeling down, a show that I always turn to is Gilmore Girls.

Gilmore girls got the basic things in life right. One of the main points being the pop culture references. On top of that, they gave life to their relationships, with the happiness, sadness, anger and eating junk food, exactly how life is today.

Each episode taught you a lesson. A few things that I learnt are:

  1. Don’t be afraid to go for what you want.

Both Rory and Lorelai fought for what they wanted. Lorelai wanted her own inn she continuously worked for it, as Rory wanted to be a journalist, she didn’t stop writing. This inspired me to keep working towards my business.

2. You don’t need to be in a relationship

You don’t need a relationship to be happy, or to have a relationship to define you. Ultimately you are the one.

3. Mistakes do happen

Let’s face it. The girls in Gilmore Girls had imperfections and made mistakes, but that is what makes it realistic. You have periods of your life where you may feel lost and confused (Like Rory dropping out of university) but you pull yourself together and learn from mistakes.

4. It is okay to be scared

Fear to some degree is healthy. The point here is that it is okay if things don’t go to plan. Things eventually work out as they should.

5. Eat that takeaway

Treat yourself and enjoy it. Don’t feel bad for it or allow people to shame you for what you enjoy.

For me as a fan of Gilmore Girls, it will always be personal to me. It gives me a sense of comfort and security at times when I am struggling or feeling lost.
